About the page reader
When a page is brought over by its address, Popin fetches that one public page and takes the links, the title and the line out of it. It says who it is in the request: PopinImporter/1.0 (+https://popin.page/from).
- It runs only when a person asks, with the address of their own page. One public page per request.
- It never logs in, and it does not get past a password, a sign-in or an age gate. A page behind one is refused.
- It copies no pictures. Only words and addresses are taken, and a Popin row draws the service’s own mark.
- Your page's address is checked against a safety list before it is opened, every link on it is checked too, and a link that fails is left out.
- It is rate-limited per connection, and what it read is kept for ten minutes, so a popular page is fetched once for everyone.
- A tool that refuses every fetcher is not fetched at all. Its page is copied in the browser of the person who owns it and pasted into Popin, and that makes no request to the old page.
